Armed bandits have killed a Police mobile officer, four Community Protection Guards (CPG), and two hunters during a gun battle between the bandits and security personnel in Zamfara State.
The incident occurred in the Keta town area of Tsafe Local Government Council of Zamfara State on Thursday evening.
Tribune Online gathered that many armed bandits were also killed, including the bandit kingpin Dan Isufu, during the encounter.
It was further gathered that two hunters who were seriously wounded are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in the state.
In a statement issued on Friday in Gusau, the spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the clash occurred at about 1540 hours when the bandits, who were in large numbers, stormed Keta village in Tsafe Local Government Area with the intention of attacking the villagers.
According to him, in an effort to repel the attack, a joint operation comprising the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU), hunters, and Community Protection Guard (CPG) members was mobilized and engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle.
“During the encounter, one PMF personnel, four Community Protection Guard (CPG) members, and two hunters made the ultimate sacrifice during the attack,” he lamented.
“As part of the Zamfara State Police Command’s efforts to rid the state of crime and restore confidence among its citizens, a joint operation was conducted to repel a bandit attack on Keta town in Tsafe LGA.”
“At approximately 1540 hours, a good Samaritan reported that a large number of armed bandits had stormed Keta town with the intention of perpetrating their inhumane acts.”
“In response, a joint operation comprising PMF, CTU, hunters, and CPG mobilized and engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle,” he mentioned.
