The Niger State Governor, Rt Hon Umaru Mohammed Bago, has presented a budget estimate of N1,558,887,565,358.00 to the state House of Assembly for consideration for the 2025 fiscal year.
This figure is 48.32 per cent higher than the N805.6 billion approved for 2024.
The 2025 budget comprises N196,335,361,443.00 (13 per cent) allocated for recurrent expenditure, while N1,362,552,203,915.00 (87 per cent) is earmarked for capital expenditure.
The governor stated that the budget would be funded through the following sources:
Statutory Allocation: N53,400,000,000.00
Value Added Tax (VAT): N85,300,555,454.00
Other Federation Allocation Account (FAAC) receipts: N236,900,000,000.00
Internally Generated Revenue (IGR): N63,360,000,000.00
Other IGR: N186,368,241,948.00
Capital Receipts: N933,558,767,956.00
This brings the total budget size to N1,558,887,565,358.00.
According to Governor Bago, the proposed 2025 budget aims to solidify the rapid socio-economic development of the state and strengthen the foundation laid to achieve the New Niger Agenda.
He noted that the 2025 Budget, tagged the “Budget of Hope for Sustainability and Food Security,” reflects the administration’s focus on addressing development challenges and economic opportunities within the state.
“This budget will focus on key economic sectors: security of lives and properties, agriculture and food security, health, education, water and sanitation, infrastructure development, social security, and environmental sustainability.
“The 2025 budget preparation followed a participatory, people-centred approach through citizen engagement (town hall meetings). This process, which we hold in high esteem, prioritises citizen involvement, ensuring transparency, accountability, and inclusivity,” he added.
