A movie by a popular Nigeria comedian and actor, Ayo Makun (aka AY)-“The Waiters” will Friday, December 20, 2024 hit the cinema.
The movie created by Corporate World Entertainment was directed by Toka McBaror and produced by Darlington Abuda focuses on a story everyone can relate with.
Speaking in Lagos recently during an Exhibitors’ Luncheon organised ahead of the debut, Makun said the movie would pitch his recurring character ‘Akpos’; which had featured in previous productions such as ‘Christmas in Miami’ and ‘Trip to Jamaica’, in the lens of authentic Nigerian stories.
According to him, the movie is laced with quality, action and emotional situations that people can relate with. “We cannot go to America and tell their stories better than them. Likewise the Americans cannot come and tell our story better than us here. The decision was to get the home quality and content and relate it to our story. We have a very beautiful story. The Waiter is a movie we all can relate with,” said Makun.
The much-expected movie will show the acting skills of Nollywood A-list actors like Regina Daniels, Deyemi Okanlawan, Shaffy Bello and Williams Uchemba. Others include Toke Makinwa, Richard Mofe-Damijo, and AY Makun.
Speaking on his experience while putting together the movie, McBaror said: “The Waiter required a lot of mental, physical and financial commitment. I am excited that we were able to make the film an epic after reading the script. Again, ‘The Waiter’ is a very special movie, different from the other movies I have done in the past. There is something special about it, get to the Cinema’s on December 20 and see the vibe the film will give.” McBaror informed.
Film Producer, Darlington Abuda, noted that the film touched on very relatable issues in society which also sparked important conversations and reflections.
Makun also commented on the co-distribution agreement between Genesis Pictures and Silverbird Distribution for ‘The Waiter’, acknowledging it as a step in the right direction for the Nigerian film industry.
“We have broken the jinx in the history of the movie industry. Now, we have two distribution companies come together as one to drive a particular title. We are in an age and time of collaboration, and it is something that will collectively move us forward as individuals and as an industry,” he noted.
