President Bola Tinubu has condemned the attack on former US president, Donald Trump, describing it as “distasteful and going beyond the pale of democratic norms.”
Trump was injured after being rushed off stage during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania due to an apparent assassination attempt.
According to reports, loud gunshots were heard as Trump was addressing supporters, prompting Secret Service agents to quickly escort him from the stage. Video footage shows Trump being ushered away as the crowd ducked for cover.
Tinubu extended his sympathies to Trump and condoled with the family of the deceased, as well as those wounded, wishing them a quick recovery. He affirmed that “Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time.”

“Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time.”
The Secret Service has launched an investigation into the incident, which they are treating as an assassination attempt. Republican lawmakers have also announced plans to investigate how the shooter was able to evade security and open fire.
