The Tutorial Workers Union of Universities, ASUU, College of Ibadan (UI) department, has bemoaned the transfer by the Nationwide Meeting to create an extra 47 federal universities.
UI ASUU Chairman, Prof Ayo Akinwole, mentioned this in an interview with newsmen in Ibadan on Tuesday on the sidelines of its scholarship awards to some indigent college students.
Akinwole expressed fear over the deliberate institution of extra federal universities when the federal government was nonetheless struggling to fund the prevailing ones.
He mentioned the federal authorities continues to be battling to keep up the standard of the 52 universities it at the moment has.
“Pondering of including 47 extra universities, we start to marvel what the target is. The target can’t be noble in any respect.
“Whether it is noble, you will notice the seriousness in the way in which the federal government is dealing with the prevailing ones,” Akinwole mentioned.
Based on him, for the reason that authorities had regularly seen college training as the most affordable, it had proven little or little interest in paying salaries and allowances owed to universities.
The ASUU chairman described the removing of tertiary establishments from IPPIS as mere ‘noisemaking’, as there had been no letter to that impact to the schools.
