The General Officer Commanding, GOC, 2 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Bamidele Alabi, has applauded troops for their commitment and unrelenting efforts in tackling various security challenges.
Captain Njoka Irabor, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Nigerian Army College of Education, in a statement on Sunday, said General Alabi made the assertion while making his remarks at the joint West African Social Activities for year 2023, organized by Headquarters 22 Armoured Brigade, Nigerian Army Institute of Science Education and Technology and the Nigerian Army College of Education, Sobi Cantonment, Ilorin on 17 February 2024.
The GOC further noted that the celebration of the WASA is an age-long tradition and social activity of the NA, that creates a platform for interaction between officers, soldiers, members of their families and the civil populace in a conducive atmosphere.
According to him “the display of our rich cultural heritage, serves as a testament to the strong bonds of camaraderie, unity, and the indomitable spirit that defines the NA. It is a time to come together, not only to celebrate our achievements and successes but also to strengthen our bonds and forge new friendships”.
General Alabi, who was represented at the event by the Provost Nigerian Army College of Education, Major General Umar Babangida, appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, for his unique leadership, especially in providing funds for the WASA, which shows the degree of importance attached to sustaining the culture and traditions of the NA.
Highlights of the event were display of various cultural dances across the nation, tug of war competition between male and female Corps members, presentation of awards to deserving soldiers, presentation of souvenirs to invited guests and the lighting of bonfire.
The event was attended by heads of sister security and paramilitary agencies in Kwara State.
Also present at the event was His Royal Highness, Ohoro of Shao, Oba Dr Job Obalowuatolagbe among other dignitaries.
