Worried by the gruesome killing of the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Plateau State chapter, Slyvanus Namang on Sunday, the APC has demanded for a thorough investigation into the murder.
Addressing newsmen in Jos on Monday, the State Chairman of the party, Rufus Bature tasked the security agencies to go after the perpetrators of the heinous crime and bring them to justice adding that officials and members of the party at the moment are living in fear.
He narrated that based on the information made available to the party Namang was dastardly murdered at a provision store in Pankshin by some gunmen suspected to be assassins along with the owner of the store.
“Though details of this unacceptable and unfortunate incident are yet to be released by the security agencies, we as a Party feel constrained and also seriously agitated as well as concerned about the circumstances leading to his death for some obvious reasons”.
The State party Chairman described the deceased as a very vibrant, articulate and fearless spokesman of the Party who not only promoted and defended the ideals of the APC, but ensured that it maintained its hold of the State at all cost.
According to him, Namang posture and disposition towards APC, especially on the Plateau, endeared him to many, though not without some harassment and intimidation by opponents.
“Without sounding immodest as a Party, we refuse to subscribe to the narratives being peddled around on the gruesome murder even when investigations have not been concluded. The APC views this as a serious matter and wants to believe that some of its key members and some citizens are no longer safe in Plateau State.
“Consequently, we demand a thorough investigation into the murder and the perpetrators of this dastardly act should be brought to justice to allay any fears that have at the moment engulfed the teeming supporters of the APC”.
He, therefore commiserated with the Namang family and indeed the APC not only, in Plateau State but entire Country for this great loss and called on the party supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, while awaiting the outcome of the investigation into the matter.
