A series of accidents on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway has led to significant traffic disruptions today, Saturday, April 5, 2025.
The incidents, reported around 11:20 AM near the Cele area, involved a container-laden truck that overturned, colliding with seven other vehicles. This has resulted in a major gridlock, with traffic backlog extending to Ijesha and continuing to spill over as of 1:01 PM WAT.
According to posts from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on X, emergency responders were promptly dispatched to the scene, with additional support en route to manage the situation. LASTMA officials have diverted traffic to the service lane to alleviate congestion while efforts to recover and evacuate the affected vehicles are underway.

No severe injuries have been confirmed at this time, though casualty details remain incomplete as the response continues.
The Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, a critical artery connecting Lagos’ ports to other parts of the city, is notorious for frequent gridlocks, often exacerbated by heavy truck traffic and poor road conditions.
Motorists have been advised to seek alternative routes where possible and exercise patience as the situation is brought under control.
