The newly inaugurated Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon.Stanley Nkwoka, has declared a state of emergency on waste management in the council area.
Nkwoka made the declaration while addressing a press conference shortly after meeting with relevant stakeholders from the local government at the Council Secretariat in Ogidi, on Thursday to kick-start his three months administrative tenure in office.
He said he is determined to personally lead the campaign for the complete evacuation of refuse in public places.
The TC Chairman noted that his personal intervention will continue until a change in attitude is seen among residents in the area.
Over the years, solid waste management had posed a major health challenge, resulting in the outbreak of diseases, but my administration has come to correct the wrong behaviours.
“My government will commence an aggressive enforcement of extant laws that would mean prosecution of offenders until the roads and streets are free from the filth and refuse given the Council Area a bad name.”
According to him, “I stand before you today, humbled and grateful, as we mark the beginning of a new chapter in our local government’s journey. I am honoured to resume office as your Chairman, and l promise to dedicate myself to the service of our great LGA.
“Our vision is clear: to build a sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous local government, where every Nwa ldemili has access to quality services, opportunities, and a healthy environment.
“We will focus on Enhancing infrastructural development, Improving health care and primary education, promoting economic growth and job creation, protecting our environment and conservation, fostering community engagement and Stakeholder participation Improving Local Security.
“These priorities are anchored on the four major pillars of Mr Governor’s Solution agenda vis a viz, Economic Transformation Social Agenda, Governance, Rule of Law and Value System and Environment.
“I am declaring a state of emergency on Waste Management in the Council Area in line with Governor Chukwukuma Soludo’s vision of making Anambra a clean, green, livable and prosperous state in Nigeria
“Mine is to work tirelessly to ensure transparency, accountability, and good governance. Our doors are open to your suggestions, ideas, and feedback.
“Deepening the Political Conversation in ldemili North LG remains sacrosanct.
“With Mr Governor’s remarkable achievements across the state, it shall create an open-door revolution for bringing in more people to join the conversation.
“Leveraging on the population strength of our LG, strategically positioning the party LG, wards and effectively reaching out to every one shall top my priority.
“My ldemili people, this is our own, let us work together to build a brighter future for ourselves, our children, and generations to come,” the Chairman concluded.
In their separate remarks, the Head of the Council Administration, Engr. Emeka Chukwu, and the State Coordinator of Solution Frontiers, Chief Alex Anagu, asserted that the new Chairman being welcomed by many people showed that he has many supporters and they would surely expect him to deliver beyond expectations.
They charged him to work hard to surpass what the governor saw in him which made him to appoint him.
The event also witnessed the presence of the traditional ruler of Ogidi community, Igwe Alex Onyido and thousands of APGA supporters across the local government area.
