The Nationwide Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, on Sunday confirmed that about eight individuals died whereas 38 others have been rescued in a ship mishap that occurred in Anambra State.
Though the Anambra State Police Command mentioned 5 individuals died whereas 30 have been rescued, the NIWA Common Supervisor, Company Affairs, Alhaji Jibril Darda’u, in a press release issued in Lokoja on Sunday confirmed eight useless.
Darda’u mentioned the “unhappy and unlucky” incident occurred at Umumu Anam, Anambra West Native Authorities Space, ”between Thursday and Friday”.
“The authority sincerely commiserates with the households and associates of the deceased and prays to God to grant relaxation to their souls,” he mentioned.
In line with him, preliminary experiences indicated that the “wood engine boat rammed right into a snag on the water channel and capsized with 50 passengers on board.
“From the data, eight individuals have been confirmed useless on the scene, whereas 38 others have been rescued instantly.
