A political group, Anambra Equity Movement (A.N.E.M.), has launched its innovative and game-changing initiative aimed at mobilising voters in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 8 November 2025 governorship election in the state.
The group said it is mobilising for APC to enable Anambra State to experience governance under a new political party, having been under the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) since the return of democracy in 1999.
It specifically urged the party to zone its governorship ticket to Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state, arguing that since the inception of democracy in Nigeria, the area has not held the position.
This was part of the group’s resolution, signed by its Convener/Chairman, Hon. Engr. TonyUche Chukwudi Ezekwelu, and issued to journalists during a press conference held in Awka on Thursday.
According to Ezekwelu, who read the resolution, the movement is a coalition of socio-political and religious pressure groups, civil societies, and non-governmental organisations, which strongly believe in and are committed to bringing justice, equity, and fairness in the distribution of elective and appointive political offices in Anambra State and Nigeria at large.
“This will ensure that all facets and classes of Anambrans are given a sense of belonging, irrespective of geographical origin, religious belief/creed, profession/class, gender, education, and other classifications.
“The group is poised to assiduously employ every effective means of mobilisation and enlightenment to achieve our set goals, making Anambra truly the light of the nation.
“The movement resolved that the Anambra governorship, by geopolitical consideration, should remain in the South Senatorial Zone for the next four years. Within the South Senatorial Zone, it should be zoned to the Old Nnewi Division, made up of Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo LGAs; whereas Aguata/OAU have had over six years of governance under Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife and Prof. Charles Soludo, and Ihiala held the governorship for four years under the late Dr Chinwoke Mbadinuju. Both divisions have held power for over ten years to the exclusion of the Old Nnewi Division in Anambra South.
“That Catholic Christians, having dominated governorship power for 23 uninterrupted years, it is only just, equitable, and fair that the next governor should be zoned to non-Catholics, especially Anglicans/PFN, among other CAN blocs.

“Also, with APGA having ruled for 20 years and PDP for seven years, Anambra should consider another political party. The best option for the next governorship, by all considerations, is the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is the ruling party at the centre, or any other viable party with a strong non-Catholic candidate.
“Our structure, under the able leadership of Ezekwelu as the Convener/Chairman of the movement, with Comrade Engr. Anthony Aniebuo as General Secretary, together with the Central Working Committee, LG EXCOs, and Ward EXCOs, is fully in place, advocating and mobilising massively towards achieving our set goals.
“We resolved to leave no stone unturned in achieving our set goal. Our adopted candidate, who meets all these set criteria, should personally assure the members and all Ndi Anambra that they will be fully supported and carried along before, during, and after the gubernatorial primaries and election proper, as well as in government. The candidate must sign a pact/take a vow that he will not discriminate against any denominations, groups, or individuals when he assumes the governorship on 8 November 2025.
“All this is to save the state from potential political and electoral violence that may arise from sustained political domination and intimidation,” Ezekwelu concluded.
