The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has reaffirmed the decision of the House to suspend the Alimosho Local Government stands.
The House, during Monday’s plenary session, suspended Alimosho local government chairman Jelili Sulaiman over allegations of misconduct and defiance of the House.
The Obasa-led House appointed the council’s vice chairman, Akinpelu Johnson, as the new chairman of the council with immediate effect.
The Speaker restated the position of the House during the interview session at the constituency stakeholders’ meeting held at the Agege Local Government secretariat on Friday.
According to him, the suspended Alimosho local government chairman, Mr. Jelili Sulaimon, remains suspended until a competent court of law says otherwise.
Obasa, however, advised any aggrieved chairman to head to court to seek redress on the decision of the House.
He said, “I have no apology to anybody. The decision of the House stands and remains unchanged. It is only the court of law that can say otherwise. Anyone who is not satisfied with the decision of the House should seek redress at a court of law, and if the court says otherwise, we will change our position. I thank our constituents for their continued support.”
Speaking on his rumoured governorship ambition, he said, “Those peddling rumours are jittery, but that does not mean I am not qualified to be a governor. The governors are not better than me. They are not better read than me. All we want is progress. There is no one that wants to contest for the chairmanship seat that cannot aspire. All we need to do is cooperate and be in unity.”
