The Ondo Development Committee has stated that the dualisation of the Akure-Ondo-Ore Road will significantly enhance social and economic activities in the Ondo Kingdom.
The Chairman of the ODC, Chief Siji Akinwande, who is also the Tadese of Ondo Kingdom, made this known in a statement on Sunday where he commended the Osemawe and Paramount Ruler of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo, for his relentless efforts in ensuring the realisation of the project.
According to the statement, the ODC has, through the yearly Ekimogun Day Celebrations, played a vital role in attracting physical development to the kingdom and improving the welfare of its people since its establishment.
“The ODC, formed on the authority of the Osemawe in 1986, has remained committed to fostering cultural continuity, unity among the people, and attracting development to the city and its surrounding towns and villages,” the statement stated.
The committee also acknowledged the efforts of the Osemawe, who, during the last Ekimogun Day celebration, disclosed how he had persistently engaged the relevant authorities on the road dualisation project.
The monarch reportedly began advocating for the project nearly a decade ago when he served as the Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas.
“He expressed his joy at the realisation of his dream, as the road project will greatly impact commerce, transportation, and the overall development of Ondo Kingdom,” the statement added.
The 2024 edition of Ekimogun Day, according to the statement, featured various activities, including an ICT quiz and debate competition among primary and secondary schools in the Ondo East and West local government areas. Winners of the competition were presented with computers to encourage digital literacy.
Other events included cultural dance competitions, medical outreach, and sports tournaments. The medical outreach reportedly provided free healthcare services to over 1,500 residents, with 225 people receiving free medicated glasses.
“Palliatives like food items and clothes, among others were also distributed to the less privileged.
“The 2024 edition was particularly interesting as it combined the celebration with Ondo’s socio-cultural heritage and the recognition of distinguished individuals who have contributed significantly to the kingdom’s development,” it added.
