Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State has honoured the Chief Information Officer, University of Ibadan, Sunday Saanu, for his contributions to the institution’s image and public relations during his one-year sabbatical.
The university, in a colourful farewell ceremony held on August 31, 2024, commended Saanu for his professionalism and dedication, which they said have enriched the institution.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Timothy Adebayo, recalled his determined efforts to bring Saanu to the faith-based institution due to his impressive track record at UI.
“Saanu has not only met but exceeded our expectations,” Adebayo stated.
He recounted how, after reading Saanu’s works in various media, he was convinced that the media expert would be an asset to ACU.
“His writings are a testament to his mastery of the English language, and his impact here has been felt by everyone,” he added.
Adebayo also highlighted the media expert’s pivotal role during a crisis at the university, crediting him with suggesting key strategies that helped restore normalcy.
“His advice was invaluable, and his discreet yet effective approach to his work has been nothing short of remarkable,” the Vice Chancellor noted.
The university’s Librarian, Dr. Bosede Ajiboye, echoed the Vice Chancellor’s sentiments, praising Saanu’s writing.
“His articles are always a must-read, and his dedication is inspiring,” she said.
Other members of the university, including Deputy Registrar Mr Olusegun Ojo and Public Relations Officer Mr Olufemi Atoyebi, also paid glowing tributes to Saanu, highlighting the invaluable lessons they had learnt from him during his time at ACU.
In his response, an emotional Saanu expressed his gratitude for the unexpected honour.
“I never imagined such a lavish farewell. I am humbled and deeply moved by all these tributes,” he said, promising to continue supporting ACU in any way he can.
Saanu was later honoured with an award in recognition of his contributions to the university.
