Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State approved on Monday the payment of a N35,000 monthly wage award for workers of state-owned tertiary institutions.
The Governor’s approval came after a meeting with the heads of tertiary institutions and leaders of the workers of the institutions last week in Akure.
According to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, the governor’s approval came after his meeting with the heads of tertiary institutions and leaders of the workers of the institutions last week in Akure.
He said the payment of the wage award, which is expected to run for six months, will begin in June 2024.

Workers of the tertiary institutions had recently protested their exclusion from the payment of the N35,000 monthly wage award to civil servants in the State for six months from November 2023 to April 2024.
The state government had earlier stated that the wage award for the school workers was expected to be paid from the subvention of the tertiary institutions, which had been increased in recent months.
However, the inability of the tertiary institutions to pay the award from their subvention necessitated the intervention of the Governor.
The reduction of the wage award for civil servants from N35,000 to N15,000 was to enable the government to get enough resources to pay the wage award for workers of the tertiary institutions.
Pensioners in the State are also receiving a N10,000 monthly wage award.
