A devastating road traffic crash occurred on the eve of Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Kasari Village along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway, resulting in the loss of 10 lives.
The crash involved a Toyota Hiace bus (commercial) with registration number GDW190XA, which collided head-on with a truck (commercial) bearing registration number SMK 141XN.
Confirming the development, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kaduna Sector Command, Kabir Y Nadabo, said preliminary investigations revealed that 16 people were involved in the crash, with 8 males and 8 females.
He said six people were confirmed dead at the scene, while six others were uninjured. Four people were rushed to the hospital in Rijana, where they later succumbed to their injuries.
The cause of the crash was attributed to wrongful overtaking and dangerous driving. The bus caught fire due to the impact of the collision, while the occupants of the truck escaped unharmed.
The Sector Commander vowed to continue sensitizing the public on safe driving culture and road behavior, and to engage transport unions to caution drivers against road vices.
“A Toyota Hiace bus with registration number GDW190XA experienced a head-on collision with a truck with registration number SMK 141XN, all commercial vehicles.
“A combined team of rescue operatives from RS1.114 Zhipe, RS1.16B Dutse Outpost, some officers from the Nigerian Police Force, and some military personnel conducted the rescue. The preliminary investigation revealed that sixteen people (16) are involved, with 8 males and 8 females.
“As at the time of rescue, six persons (6) were confirmed deceased on the spot, while six (6) were not injured, and four (4) were conveyed to the hospital at Rijana.
“The cause of the RTC is established to be wrongful overtaking and dangerous driving.
“Furthermore, on getting to the hospital, the injured all succumbed to their injuries, bringing the death number to ten (10) persons.
“It is worthy to mention that after the collision, the bus got set ablaze due to the impact of the crash, while those in the truck were not injured,” he said.
