AFCON: They lack commitment – Bashir Ahmad criticises Nigeria’s Super Eagles after 1-0 win over Ivory Coast

A former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has criticised the current Super Eagles players after they defeated Ivory Coast 1-0 at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Thursday.

Recall that Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong gave Nigeria the victory against Ivory Coast via a second-half penalty after Victor Osimhen was fouled in the box.

The AFCON match was played at the Olympic Stadium in Ebimpé.

However, in a tweet via his X account, Ahmad said Jose Peseiro’s side lacks teamwork and commitment.

He tweeted, “The current Super Eagles team lacks the teamwork and commitment of previous Super Eagles we used to watch while growing up.

“They were so dedicated and selfless prayers. Those ones we watch now seem too focused on individual play, trying to accomplish everything all alone.”

The Super Eagles will now face Guinea-Bissau in their last AFCON Group A tie on Monday.
