Angola head coach Pedro Goncalves is targeting a place in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Arogidigba Global Journal reports.
The Palancas Negras will be up against three-time winners Nigeria in a quarter-final tie at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, on Friday.
Goncalves’ side have enjoyed a near perfect campaign in Cote d’Ivoire, winning three and drawing one of their four games.
The game against the Super Eagles will be their biggest test after their opener against Algeria which ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Portuguese is, however, looking beyond that and has his sight set on the ultimate prize.
“Whoever reaches the quarter-finals has to aim to go as far as possible, and the furthest possible is to reach the final and propose themselves as a candidate for victory,” he stated.
Angola have never won the AFCON title. They have made it to the quarter-finals twice in the past (2008 and 2010).
