Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has asked illegal miners to keep off Adamawa State, vowing that he will not fold his hands and let the state become a haven of illegal mining and pervasive insecurity.
The governor sounded the warning on Monday while receiving people and leaders from the Ganye Chiefdom who complained of rising illegal mining activities and insecurity in their domain.
The Ganye leaders met the governor less than two weeks after a story broke about some 30 people perishing after a mining collapse at an illegal mining site that stretched from neighbouring Taraba State to Toungo, a local government area in Adamawa State which together with Ganye and Jada LGAs constitute the Ganye Kingdom.
Fintiri warned those engaging in illegal mining and their accomplices to stop or face his government which does not condone acts that disrupt peace and security.
Assuring the people that Ganye Kingdom would not descend into lawlessness and insecurity, Fintiri said, “We are tackling the security threat in the Toungo area. We will face them squarely.”
He said he could not be comfortable if it should come to a time when the people would not be able to sleep with their eyes closed, stressing, “I want you to keep having your sound sleep as I work to ensure your security.”
The paramount Ganye King, the Gangwari Ganye, Alhaji Umaru Sanda who led the visitors to the Governemtn House in Yola, had earlier during the visit spoken about infiltration of people who are posing security challenges around his domain.
