As political parties prepare for the forthcoming local government election in Adamawa state, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has urged all the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirants to pick women as running-mate for the chairmanship positions.
The governor said whoever emerges as the candidate of the party should make it a duty to pick a woman as the running-mate.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who is the leader of the PDP in the state, made the appeal during a stakeholders meeting of the party that held in the Banquet Hall Government House, Yola on Tuesday.
He noted that “the party will continue to recognise the contributions of women, and therefore his administration will accord them the attention they deserve”.
Fintiri warned the stakeholders against any act of sabotage or anti-party activities during the conduct of the local government polls, pointing out that such an attitude is inimical to the PDP.
“I want every one of us not to repeat what happened during the last governorship election”.
The governor, while calling on PDP stakeholders to ensure free and fair conduct of the party’s primary elections, appealed to aspirants who may lose the primaries to accept it in good faith.
State Chairman of the party, Barrister Tahir Shehu, while speaking, said the meeting was called to discuss matters regarding preparations of the party ahead of the local government election.
“As a party, we intend to go round the state and campaign for our candidates to ensure the victory of our candidates in the election,” he said.
He urged all the aspirants in the contest to embrace whoever emerges as PDP standard-bearers for chairmanship and councilorship positions.
According to him, “leadership is an act of destiny and God gives it to whoever he wants.”
He therefore charged all the stakeholders to ensure the process is conducted successfully without any element of rancour.
