Adamawa State Government has approved N2,937,217,120.45 for the reconstruction of the Yola Town market.
The market was destroyed by fire about five months ago.
The new market, to house 69 modern shops, would be completed within nine months.
The approval was disclosed to journalists by the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr John Dabari, shortly after a meeting of the State Executive Council, SEC, presided over by Deputy Governor Kaletapwa Farauta at the Government House in Yola on Wednesday.
Dabari said remodelling of the market would involve the use of modern architectural design to reduce the prevalence of fire outbreaks.
He said government’s decision to rebuild the market became imperative to enable the resumption of full commercial activities in Yola Town.
Arogidigba Global Journal reports that Yola Town in Yola South LGA is one of the twin towns that make up the Yola capital city, the other being Jimeta in Yola North LGA.
