Netizen’s (Nigerians) reactions to a recent statement by Nigerian actor, director, and producer, Kunle Afolayan about competency have been mixed, leading to online debates about the matter.

The actor recently made a statement on Instagram decrying the level of incompetency in Nigeria. He claimed that while many Nigerians complain that there is no Job in the country, when they finally get one they are inefficient workers.

He expressed anger at this type of behaviour, showing his discontent with people who do not dedicate their entire life to their work.

In his own words;

“I am so saddened by the high level of incompetence in our beloved country. A lot of people cry about not having a job, but when they get one, how efficient are they at it? I’m so pissed 🤦🏾‍♂️.”

Netizen’s reactions to his sentiments have been mixed, as while some were quick to agree with him, others claimed he was out of touch with the average Nigerian.

They expressed the matter was not as black and white as he made the issue sound and a lot of factors he did not consider in his statement affect workplace efficiency.

@thrivewiththebomides We tend to forget where we’re coming from after we’ve gotten what we wanted.

@folmay_interiors Where’s the lie? Enter into a shop, office, or supermarket almost all the staff will be on their phones.

@missoyebola Not all staff will go above and beyond 👌 , but at-least you know your job description then do it well.

@tochi_lifestyle It’s not a one sided issue. There’s need to hear both side of the story

@misschidel Toxic work environment can make you not to function well or deliver well. Hope you all know this?

@leeeymarrrrh I don’t see why employees will get paid well and still be incompetent at work .. check your work space

@misschidel Treat your staffs well and see them delivering well on which ever task you give them. Cause most people not delivering efficiently is based on on the work environment and how they are been treated
