A youth group under the auspices of the Council of Nigeria Youth Advocate (CNYA) has faulted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for declaring the socialite, Aisha Achimugu, wanted.
The group has accordingly appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to call the EFCC to order and stop the persecution of Achimugu, whom they described as a “businesswoman” contributing her quota to the development of the nation.
CNYA President, Amb. Haruna Gambar, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, insisted that the EFCC was wrong to declare Achimugu wanted over an alleged case of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.
He said: “The declaration of Achimugu wanted by the EFCC for money laundering is totally wrong and evil. They are out to frustrate her as a private businesswoman in Nigeria, where she is doing well in contributing to the development of Nigeria and creating job opportunities for young Nigerians.
“We call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to caution the EFCC because this can discourage investors from coming to invest in Nigeria. Dr Aisha Achimugu is a citizen of Nigeria who loves her country and decided to invest here in Nigeria so that youths can get jobs, and some people are coming with cooked stories that she is a money launderer.
“If President Bola Ahmed Tinubu allows such evil to continue in Nigeria, it will discourage both local and foreign investors.

“We, therefore, call on the EFCC with a loud voice to please remove the name and picture of Dr Aisha Achimugu from their website and wanted list. As a professional body, they should know the implication of allowing people to hide under them to hunt others in this manner,” the group stated.
The CNYA President, Amb. Haruna Gambar, argued that Achimugu was conferred with a National Honour by the Federal Government in recognition of her immense contributions to the development of the nation.
He, therefore, urged the President to personally intervene so as not to allow “some people” to destroy what he (Tinubu) is working hard to build, especially public perception about anti-corruption agencies in the country.
He warned that CNYA and other youth organisations in the country would not allow “a few individuals” to destroy her business and the reputation she has built for decades.
