The Osun State chapter of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, JONAPWD, has urged the state Governor, Ademola Adeleke to speedily implement the disability bill that has been signed into law.
The call was made by the Osun JONAPWD chairman, Stephen Oluwafemi in a statement on Saturday.
Oluwafemi also commended Governor Adeleke for the speedily assent to the Disability Bill.
Arogidigba Global Journal recalls that the Osun State House of Assembly had in May passed the Osun State Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Prohibition Bill into law.
The statement read: “The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, (JONAPWD), Osun State Chapter, commends the Osun State Government for signing the Disability Bill into law.
“This landmark achievement demonstrates the government’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities.
“However, we urge the government to take immediate action to implement the provisions of the bill, particularly in the ongoing teacher’s recruitment exercise.
“We call on the government to ensure that persons with disabilities are given fair representation and equal opportunities in the recruitment process.
“The implementation of this bill will not only improve the lives of persons with disabilities but also enhance the socio-economic development of Osun State.
“We, therefore, appeal to the government to ensure inclusive recruitment processes in all state government agencies, provide reasonable accommodations and support services for persons with disabilities, and allocate sufficient resources for the implementation of the bill.”
Oluwafemi expressed confidence that the Osun State Government will take prompt action to implement the Disability Bill.
“We look forward to working together to create a more inclusive society,” he said.
