The Village Head of Gbase in Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State, Mallam Ismaila Yusuf, has made a heartfelt appeal to Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, representing Niger East Senatorial District, for immediate assistance in providing a borehole for the communities of Guidna, Jindau, Tuluku, and Mutun Daya. This plea arises due to the severe and ongoing water scarcity affecting the residents of these communities.
Speaking to reporters at his residence, Mallam Yusuf highlighted the critical need for potable water. He mentioned that in Jindau, the only existing borehole was constructed through community efforts, while Mutun Daya and Gbase each have just one borehole, which is insufficient for their growing populations.
Mallam Yusuf described Senator Sani Musa as a “listening and detribalised politician” and called on him to address this urgent need. He also expressed disappointment with the Shiroro Local Government Council for not responding to previous requests for these essential amenities, despite several appeals.
Furthermore, Mallam Yusuf urged the Niger State Rural Access and Mobility Projects (RAAMP) to reconstruct the road linking Mutun Daya to Gbase and Guidna. He emphasised the importance of extending road rehabilitation projects to improve transportation for these underserved communities.
In addition to the water issue, Mallam Yusuf appealed for the rehabilitation of the only primary school and health centre in Gbase, which have been in disrepair for five years following damage from rainstorms. He noted that pupils in Mutun Daya are currently receiving lessons under mango trees due to the poor state of their school.
The village head implored local political officeholders to work alongside the state government in addressing the pressing needs of these communities, stressing that such assistance would significantly improve living conditions in Shiroro Local Government Area.
