The police in Delta State have recovered N2,334,000, which was part of the ransom paid by some kidnapped victims for their freedom.
During a patrol in Asaba, six suspects were arrested in a tricycle, which was followed by a review of the command’s activities by the state police commissioner, Abaniwonda Olufemi.
It was reported that operatives from the Ebrumede division intercepted a tricycle carrying six passengers based on credible intelligence.
The suspects attempted to escape upon seeing the police, but they were chased and apprehended.
The police recovered the aforementioned amount and some suspected stolen phones.
Additionally, in a separate operation in the Umunede forest area, two victims who had been kidnapped on August 30, 2024, along the Asaba-Benin Expressway were successfully rescued.
“The suspected kidnappers on noticing that the Police were closing in on them abandoned the victims and escaped.
“They were rescued and have been reunited with their families. One Dane gun and ten rounds of live cartridges were recovered.
During the period under review, four AK-47 Rifles, eight pump action guns, fifteen cut-to-size guns, five bareta pistols and 138 ammunition/ cartridges were recovered from suspects.
