The Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Police has confirmed that a suspected killer of the abducted 300-level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Idowu Christianah, has been handed over to them.
This was revealed by the State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.
According to him, the suspect, a 200-level student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) identified as Ayomide Adeleye, was handed over to the police on Thursday by the 9th Brigade of the Nigerian Army.
He added that an investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the victim.
He tweeted, “23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye has been handed over to @LagosPoliceNG by 9 Brigade @HQNigerianArmy. The handover took place today, September 5, 2024, at about 1400hrs. Investigation is ongoing.
This development comes after many Nigerians, including celebrities such as Ayra Starr and Lateef Adedimeji, took to X to demand justice for the slain abducted FUNAAB student.
On the 19th of August 2024, Idowu Christianah was reported to have been abducted between Itaoluwo and Yaba on her way to the University of Lagos (UNILAG), where she was doing her IT.
Her abductor further used her WhatsApp account to contact her parents, sending images of her in captivity via the ‘view once’ feature and demanding a ransom of N1.5 million.
However, in a subsequent update on the issue after the abduction, a detailed report by an X user, @Letter_to_jack, late Wednesday revealed that the victim had been killed by her abductor.
On 3 August, the suspect reportedly confessed to her father and soldiers that he had killed the girl and buried her in his parents’ home in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
