The Eze Aro of Arochukwu Kingdom, His Eminence Dr Eberechukwu Oji, has announced that the kingdom’s annual New Yam festival will hold this September.
The monarch also stated that the 2024 Ikeji festival will be different from the previous years as it will feature a display of arts and culture, entertainment, tourism and traditional cuisines.
Eze Dr Eberechukwu Oji stated this during the 2nd edition of the global interactive session of all Aro on Zoom called ‘Ububo Eze Aro n’Umu Aro’.
The session, which lasted over 2hours, was held on Sunday, 1st September 2024, with over 375 participants from different countries of the world.
In one of his responses, he said the 2024 Ikeji Festival, Arochukwu’s annual New Yam Festival that holds every September would be uniquely different.
He said, “Ikeji festival is upon us, we have released the calendar, and we are preparing very seriously, and we are hoping that it will be very interesting.
“Nzuko Aro is arranging to reintroduce some classical things that used to feature in Ikeji, so this year’s own is going to be unique. You should never miss it. Delicacies that we used to eat in the olden days during Ikeji and some special activities are going to be reintroduced this year to make the festival unique in a special way.
“If you have seen what Nzuko Aro outlined, you will know that this Ikeji is already different.
“We have outlined 4 special days for our visitors, friends, family, and even tourists to come and celebrate with us in a special way.
“We are hoping that in the nearest future, from January to December, something very interesting would be happening in Arochukwu, making it a tourism destination and as such, visitors would always flood Arochukwu every month, all year round.
“Our next step is to ensure there is peace in Aro. It’s something we must do. Aro, we expect, will become a tourism destination, an economic hub, and an industrial zone. There are small steps we have been taking to ensure that anyone who thinks of Aro does that with gladness of heart.”
