Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, recently commissioned a new road in honour of veteran singer Mike Ejeagha.
The governor officially renamed Obinagu Road in Abakpa Nike, Enugu, as Mike Ejeagha Road, recognizing its proximity to the artist’s residence.
The veteran musician Ejeagha’s recently experienced revival after 41-year classical song, “Kai Esi Le Onye Isi Oche,” gained popularity after content creator Brain Jotter launched the viral “Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo” dance challenge, featuring lyrics from the song.
Governor Mbah emphasized that the road commissioning would be incomplete without personally honoring Chief Pa Mike Ejeagha at his home. An emotional video captured the moment the governor and his entourage were warmly received by the legendary musician’s household.
Sharing the footage, the governor remarked, “Today, we honoured a living legend, commissioning the Obinagu Road in Abakpa Nike Enugu, reconstructed by our administration earlier in the year, and renaming it as Mike Ejeagha Road, as it leads to his residence. As a government, we have also assumed sole responsibility for his upkeep.”
