National Coordinator, All Progressives Grand Alliance Media Warriors Forum, Evang. Chinedu Obigwe has reiterated that the September 28 local government election in Anambra State will still hold as planned despite plans of the opposition to scuttle it.
Obigwe in a statement issued in Awka on Sunday while reacting to a suit reportedly filed by the All Progressives Congress in Anambra against the state electoral body and the House of Assembly said the opposition were engaging in mere academic exercise.
Obigwe recalled that the APC members in Anambra once confessed to former Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo that the party doesn’t exist in Anambra.
He alleged that the so called court action is a means devised by the party leadership in the state to fritter away the millions of naira raised by the party during its last fundraising in Abuja.
“The Court action they instituted against ANSIEC and Anambra House of Assembly is a waste of time and a mere academic exercise. Like I said before, APC members in Anambra confessed to former Vice President Osibanjo that their party is not existing in Anambra and that is an undisputed fact. For almost 10 years now, APC Anambra has never won any election in our State and that is a pointer to the fact that they don’t exist in Anambra”
“Another thing I will say is that the Court action instituted by Basil Ejidike against ANSIEC and Anambra House of Assembly has exposed Anambra APC members as anti- democratic forces labouring in vain to cripple local government system in our State. The case they instituted is dead on arrival and nothing good will come out of it”
“Whether APC participate or not in the forthcoming September 28th local government election, the election will hold as scheduled. The conduct of Anambra local government election is a forward ever and backward never journey for ANSIEC. Anambra local government election must hold as scheduled” he stated.
