Tragedy struck on Friday when a man lost his 35-year-old wife and two children were seriously injured after a heavy downpour resulted in the collapse of a residential building in the Makwarari area of Kano State.
The man, Tijjani Magaji, a staff member of the Kano State Ministry of Information, who was posted as a cameraman at the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The collapse resulted in the death of his 35-year-old wife, Balaraba Tijjani, and the couple’s two children, Abdulnasir and Abdallah, aged 11 and 13, were also injured in the incident.
Tijjani Magaji stated that the heavy rains that began on Thursday night and continued into Friday morning caused the building to collapse.
Neighbours who were around when the incident happened quickly rushed to rescue the family from the debris and transported them to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
Despite medical efforts, Balaraba Tijjani succumbed to her injuries, which included severe spinal cord damage. However, the children are currently receiving treatment for their injuries.
Tijjani Magaji expressed his grief and accepted the tragedy as the will of Almighty God, and prayed for forgiveness for his late wife.
He expressed deep gratitude to the local community for their swift assistance during the emergency.
He then made a heartfelt appeal to the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, urging the government to assist in repairing his home, especially given the current high cost of living.
