Governors of the six South West states have commended Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land and the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) for their contribution to security in the region as well as their promotion of Yoruba culture and traditions to the entire world in general.
The governors applauded Iba Adams and the OPC at the 30th anniversary celebration of OPC in Lagos.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including traditional rulers and chiefs from Yoruba land, cultural organizations from across the country, captains of industries, among others.
The governors were all represented by their aides namely: Saheed Olushola Balogun who represented Sanwo-Olu, Chief Fagbayi Olusesan represented Abiodun, Chief Akeem Adesola represented Makinde, Otunba Dolamu Adeniyi represented Oyebanji, all commended OPC and it leader, Iba Adams for their contribution to security and preserving Yoruba heritage.
Governor Abiodun described the organisation’s anniversary as symbolic, just as he hailed OPC for standing in protecting the interest of the region
Governor Sanwo-Olu held that OPC and the Yoruba generalissimo’s efforts in fostering regional unity had not gone unnoticed, urging the group and it leader not to relent on their good deed.
Governor Makinde equally showered encomium on Adams and OPC for being a pillar of support for his administration, while Governor Oyebanji also praised Adams and OPC contribution on security of lives and property in the region , urging them to do more.
Iba Adams, who is also the National Coordinator of OPC, said the organisation would continue to be the leading group in Yoruba land and the country, assuring that the socio-cultural organisation would continue to protect the interest and cultural identity of the Yoruba as well as secure lives and property.
Adams listed the set goals of the organisation to include advocating restructuring of Nigeria, protection of lives and property, promotion of Yoruba culture and identity, defending the interest of Yoruba race, playing major roles in cultural tourism, rendering humanitarian services and promotion of youth empowerment programmes, among others. He assured that OPC would not relent in its efforts to protect the Yoruba against internal and external forces and would continue to grow in leaps and bounds.
