The Rotary Club of Lagos West, District 9111, has donated essential machines to indigents to support small-scale entrepreneurship in the community, as part of the club’s ongoing social intervention initiatives.
The donation, took place during a recent visit by the District Governor, Rotarian (Dr.) Wole Kukoyi, and is part of a broader effort to alleviate poverty in the area.
During the event in Lagos, the club distributed sewing machines and grinding machines to selected beneficiaries. These items are intended to help the recipients grow their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
Expressing the club’s commitment to community development, Kukoyi said, “We are delighted to present you with these items to assist you in your businesses. We urge you to make good use of these and not to sell them. We hope that with these, your small businesses will grow and expand to support your family and the people around you.”
The visit by Kukoyi was part of a series of courtesy visits to all Rotary clubs under District 9111, aimed at assessing their performance and encouraging continued community support.
President of the Rotary Club of Lagos West, Rotarian Betty Elegba, highlighted the careful selection process for the beneficiaries, stating: “We took a careful look around the community, and with the help of our members, we were able to identify those who needed the support the most. We would continue to support the people in the various ways we can and have always done. We believe that we can have a better society even with the little support that we render to one another.”
Elegba added that the Rotary Club of Lagos West has consistently shown support for its community through various initiatives, including scholarships, training programs, loan disbursements, and cash tokens. “These efforts are part of the club’s ongoing commitment to improving the lives of those in need within its jurisdiction.”
One of the beneficiaries, Rita Uzoamaka, expressed her gratitude to the club, saying, “This sewing machine will make a huge difference in my life. I have struggled to make ends meet, but with this support, I can now produce more and increase my income. I am truly thankful to the Rotary Club for this opportunity to better my business and my family’s future.”
