The Gombe State Government has established a standing committee to address the implementation of the newly approved national minimum wage.
Governor Muhammadu Yahaya disclosed this on Saturday in a statement issued by the Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Misilli, following a courtesy visit to Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The move comes after Governor Yahaya had previously expressed concerns in July about the state’s ability to meet the new N70,000 minimum wage requirement.
According to the governor, the committee, led by Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau, is working closely with labour unions to ensure that the state properly implements the new wage law.
The governor stated the importance of careful planning to manage the consequential adjustments that come with implementing the wage increase.
“Most states have set up committees; in Gombe, we have a standing committee headed by the Deputy Governor. They are working with the labour unions to ensure that we do the right thing,” the statement read.
Yahaya further noted that while the new minimum wage is a legal requirement, its implementation requires a structured process to ensure fairness and sustainability across the state.
