Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, has appealed to Nigerians to turn to God for abundant rainfall and bumper harvests in 2024.
Drought is a prolonged dry period in the natural climate cycle that can occur anywhere in the world. It is a slow-onset disaster characterized by a lack of precipitation, resulting in a water shortage.
The Etsu Nupe spoke to journalists in an interview on Tuesday in Minna, Niger State, about the need to seek divine intervention in the face of imminent drought.
The foremost monarch said that his call was prompted by the erratic rainfall patterns in the current rainy season.
According to him, prayers are the only solution to the looming crisis that may affect some parts of Nigeria if bumper harvests are not achieved.
He warned that such a situation would worsen the already dire socio-economic conditions in the country. Abubakar stated that the Almighty Allah would always show mercy to people when they turn to Him in prayer.

He said, “We have no option but to seek divine intervention for abundant rainfall this year so that there will be plenty of food to feed ourselves. Without this, the consequences will be severe, and the hardship that Nigerians are currently facing will be aggravated if there is a lack of food.”
“We are, however, grateful to God for all His mercies and blessings. We hope that as we turn to Him, He will continue to be merciful to us and bring the rains, God willing,” he declared.
The Etsu Nupe also urged Nigerians to intensify their prayers and seek God’s forgiveness, asking Him for steady rainfall.
He emphasized that prayer is the most potent weapon to address any hardship, including insufficient rainfall, which is a challenge faced in some parts of the country.
Abubakar said, “Whenever calamity befalls any society or community, they should quickly return to God for His mercy.
As devout servants of Allah, we are optimistic that He will accept our prayers and shower His blessings and protection upon us.
He will provide the much-needed rainfall, bless our crops, and supply everything we need for survival.”
