Residents of Jigawa and Yobe states are currently experiencing darkness after a moving trailer ran into Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, tower located in Gunduwawa in Gezawa LGA of Kano state.
TCN General Manager of public affairs, Ndidi Mbah disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
According to her, the incident happened on Sunday, leading to the disruption of electricity supply from its Kano–Hadejia 132kV Transmission Line, with the loss of about 16.6 megawatts.
She noted that TCN’s contractor has already been deployed to reconstruct the tower.
TCN assured that it will do everything to resume bulk power supply to the electricity distribution company in the affected areas.
“The incident caused the tripping of the line, cutting off supply as the tower fell on the container and hit a nearby residential building damaging a part of it. Although no life was lost, the incident has been reported to Gezawa Divisional.
“Unfortunately, this has put Hadejia, Gumel, Gagarawa, Nguru, Mallammadori, Birniwa, Kafin-Hausa, Auyo, Guri, Kaugama, Taura, Garki, Maigatari, Babura, Kirikasamma, Machina Local Government Areas in Jigawa and Yobe States in darkness, and presently, there is no alternative source of bulk power supply to two of TCN’s substations, the Gagarawa and Hadejia substations.
“This means that the affected areas will not have supply until the tower is repaired,” the statement reads.
