Leaders of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) from Edo South Senatorial District have vowed to deliver the zone to the party in the September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo state.
The Edo South APC political heavyweights and gladiators, who met under the “Edo South APC Leadership Family Conversation”, said that the meeting was to close ranks and ensure that Governor Godwin Obaseki’s peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration was voted out of power at the election
The meeting, which was conveyed by the APC deputy governorship candidate, Mr. Dennis Idahosa, and Senator Matthew Idahosa, the immediate past senator for the senatorial district, on Sunday, drifted to the wee hours of Monday.
Among the notable Edo South APC leaders present at the meeting were the former deputy governors, Pius Odubu and Lucky Imansuen, and former APC governorship candidate Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
Others were Samson Osagie, APC Youth Leader Tony Kabaka, Edo State APC Secretary Lawrence Okah, Osaro Obazee, and former Deputy Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Paul Ohonbamu, among other notable politicians.
Speaking one after the other, the former deputy governor and leader of the party in Edo South, Pius Odubu, said Obaseki’s actions and policies had underdeveloped the state, with tales of unfulfilled promises, and urged the party faithful to work together to deliver APC in the September governorship election.
“With the calibre of leaders here today, Edo South is poised to rise again. We have realised our failings and are determined that this time around, we will deliver APC. It is a straight contest between the APC and PDP.
“When APC was at the helm of affairs, you saw massive road construction and rehabilitation across the 18 local government areas, hospitals were built, and civil servants were paid as and when due.
“Sadly, all the gains recorded by Oshiomhole were reversed. While Oshiomhole’s government was action-orientated, the PDP’s government was all about signing Memoranda of Understanding (MoU). During Oshiomhole’s government, we paid respect to traditional institutions.” Odubu lamented.
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, on his part, said winning Edo South for APC was a task that must be done, adding that for any party to win the governorship, it must first win Edo South Senatorial District.
He lambasted Obaseki, describing him as a tyrant who must not be allowed to install a successor in the September governorship election, noting that the PDP candidate could not be trusted.
