Following the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Benue State, former Governor Samuel Ortom has appealed to his supporters to sheathe their swords.
Arogidigba Global Journal reports that Ortom’s supporters and those of Senator Gabriel Suswam recently clashed over control of the party’s structure.
The party had split into factions with a series of suspension reports from different quarters.
However, Ortom in a statement issued on Monday by his spokesman, Terver Akase urged all remembers of the party to work towards maintaining peace and unity in the state.
Ortom stressed that in politics, differing opinions and positions are inevitable, stating that the differences often serve to deepen the democratic process and contribute to enriching discourses within political parties.
He pointed out that he and Senator Suswam share a long-standing friendship and mutual respect as leaders within the PDP, saying that they will always find amicable solutions to whatever political disagreements that may arise.
Chief Ortom called on all stakeholders to remain committed and focused on the shared objectives and aspirations of PDP, as they have always done.
