The Chairman, Nigeria Society of Engineers (Manchester, UK branch), Engr Patrick Obidoyin, has revealed that Nigeria’s current challenges are a product of its Infrastructural deficit.
In an exclusive interview with Tribune Online on Saturday, Engr. Patrick said such an issue has bred post-harvest losses.
According to him, there is little or no attention to infrastructure growth and the maintenance culture in the country is low.
He, therefore, urged mindset renewal from both leaders and followers, noting that policy push is from the grassroots.
Obidoyin explained that the push for growth has to emanate from stakeholders, urging the government to provide enabling infrastructure.
The Chairman, who is a member NSE Infrastructure Scorecard Committee, noted that this should be prioritised and consequently businesses will thrive.
“Problems bedevilling the nation at the moment is as a result of infrastructure challenges. Infrastructure deficit has caused post-harvest losses in Nigeria.
“We have not paid attention to the infrastructure growth. We do not have a very good maintenance culture as well.
“It means we need a change in mindset from both the leaders and the followers.
“In the Western world, policy push is from the grassroots. Whatever the populace wants is what the leadership would provide. We all need to work towards pushing for that growth in infrastructure.
“The Push has to be from all stakeholders. Infrastructure should be a priority. The Government should be all about creating an enabling environment. If such exists, a lot of businesses will thrive.
“The enabling environment involves good roads, electricity, and so many others,” he said.
