People were reported to have wailed and wept uncontrollably at Isi Obehie in Ukwa West local government area of Abia state have following the death of six members of a family resident in the community.
It was gathered that the family members while going to bed on Wednesday night, left their generator on, behind their building, with its windows open.
The windows the deceased left open it was equally gathered, allowed the generator fume to come into their apartment, resulting to the unfortunate incident.
The incident which was said to have happened at Ofoji Street in Obehie on Wednesday, saw to the death of the woman, all her three children, her sister and brother in-law.
The only survivor in the family of seven according to sources was their father who was said to be away when the incident happened.
Reports have it that five of the family members died on the spot, while the younger sister to the mother of three who was found unconscious at the time neighbours became aware of the unfortunate incident, was said to have later died in the hospital on Thursday.
Although the names of the victims could not be immediately ascertained, but they were said to have hailed from Isiala Ngwa North local government area of the state, but resident in the community.
Abia command Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka confirmed the incident.
She said investigation had begun to ascertain the true cause of their death.
