Coalition of Civil Society Organisations of Nigeria (CCSON) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the new phase of appointment amidst nationwide protests.
The group in a press statement jointly signed by the Deputy National Chairman and Spokesperson of the coalition Comrade Auwal Mohammed and Joy Elizabeth, on Wednesday, was reacting to the seven appointments made by President Tinubu under the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, on Tuesday night.
The group who stated that the appointment is aptly noted that the move is a clear indication that the president is committed to alleviating the plights of the citizenry with the determination to take Nigeria to her promised land.
Comrade Auwal further noted that the Humanitarian Affairs Ministry is a very sensitive agency of government that would offer livelihood support to all and sundry and in the long run get the dividends of democracy to every member of the Nigerian society.
The group equally urged President Tinubu to consider the CEO of QAT Foundation, Hajiya Adenike Tejuosho for the position of Humanitarian Affairs Minister because her track record of intervention in the ongoing nationwide protests is outstanding and therefore should be given the full opportunity by President Tinubu’s led administration to enable her to contribute her quota to national development.
“This appointment from President Tinubu is apt, considering the agitations from different nooks and crannies of our society as a result of the government’s policies and reforms that have posed serious economic challenges to the people.
“The Humanitarian Affairs Ministry is a very sensitive and critical agency of government, whose impact is capable of affecting the larger population of this country positively if properly managed. This is a good move from the APC administration ably led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“We as a Coalition of over 200 Civil Society Groups, that constitutes over 50 million members across the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) are fully in support of this kind of initiative that would give every member of the society a sense of belonging. We therefore called on citizens to support the president in moving Nigeria forward.
“Equally, we are calling on the president to consider competence and a humanitarian to the core, like Halimat Tejuosho Adenike who has used her resources to support the less privileged across the 36 states and the FCT.
“Also on the grounds of patriotism, Tejuosho risked her life from Abuja to Jos in the view to speak with protesters for them to end the protest which they obliged.
“Her intervention in Kogi foiled the protest with no single interest, including people living with disabilities, who she served as their national Matron. Therefore, appointing her into such position will make Nigerians believe that Mr President is interested in the welfare of young Nigerians,” part of the statement reads.
