A group, Initiative For Social Rights Concerns And Advancement, ISRCA, has urged the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government, to as a matter of urgency, reduce petrol pump price.
It opined that this would not only reduce poverty but drastically bring down the prices of commodities in the market.
This is contained in a statement made by ISRCA National Coordinator, Comrade Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen.
The group accused the Nigerian Government of inciting fear to discourage peaceful protesters from constitutionally exercising their rights to peaceful protest.
“We are not novice, not to have recognized the negative roles played by the government through her Local and State Governments, as well as civil society organizations and ethnic groups, to frustrate the exercises and efforts of the people, as well as inciting the security agencies against the people.
“The Nigerian Government, under President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, hasn’t really told the people what they really want to hear, which has furthered a continuation of the protest across different regions.
“We cannot argue or pretend not to know the root cause of what triggered hardships and economic downturns, coupled with uncontrollable inflation and high cost of living.
“The uncontrolled price of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), now selling at N850-N1000 per litre, is the leading cause of inflation,” the group further stated.
