Despite the curfew imposed in Kano State by the state Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, hundred of youths returned to the streets in some parts of the metropolis of Kano state.
Daily Sun gathered that the protesters marched passed some major areas in the state, notably among the areas are Gadan Lado Roundabout by Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Gyadi Gyadi area and along Hadejia Road area in Nassarawa Local Government of the state.
Those who saw the protesters told Daily Sun that hundreds of them, aged between 20 to 30 participated in the protest, adding tgat they were spotted raising and celebrating the Russian flag during the protesr.
“They were chanting in Hausa language that, “We are not out to break into peoples shops or to destroy public facilities. All we want is freedom” said a witness.
It was further gathered that the protesters marched without also disrupting the flow of traffic and were closely escorted by vans of security personnel which drove slowly behind them without interfering in the protests.
The displays of Russian flag by protesters was first witnessed on Saturday when protesters took to the streets in Kurna area and eventually clashed with security agencies.
In the meantime, all the major markets in the state, including the popular Abubakar and Rimi Market, Singer Market have been shut since on Thursday when the protest began. The markets were protected by security personnel,including soldiers.
The dimension of Russian flag to the protest has been raising lots of concerns among the residents of the city. Many residents expressed fear that this aspect of the protest was strange to the issues of hunger and hunger that inspired the original protest.
On Thursday, the Governor of the state, Abba Kabir Yusuf imposed a 24 hour curfew on the state but reviewed it on Sunday to a perrod between 800am to 2.00pm..
Speaking on the sudden emergence of the Russian flag line of protest, the spokesman of the Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa clarified that the protesters carrying Russian flags were not affiliated with the government.
He explained that the genuine protesters had submitted their grievances to the state Government, which would be forwarded to President Bola Tinubu in Abuja in due course.
He also announced that the State Government has set up a probe panel to investigate the killings and looting of public buildings during the protests.
The committee’s main objectives ,he stated is to determine the root causes of the violence that lead to the killings and destruction, and identify those behind the acts.
