Lagos residents protesting the economic hardship in the country were on Sunday chased from the Freedom Park in Ojota, Lagos.
Per a Daily Trust report, the chase took place after the withdrawal of some protest leaders following President Bola Tinubu’s national broadcast.
While some of the leaders agreed to end the demonstration, others decided to continue on Sunday.
Speaking with the aforementioned news outlet, one of the protesters revealed that the miscreants wielded dangerous weapons, leaving those nearby scampering for safety.
“The hoodlums just came from nowhere after some of our leaders had left and those area boys were brandishing dangerous weapons and we all had to run in different directions.”
Meanwhile, in his reaction to the President’s speech, human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong criticised Tinubu and his speech writers, saying they had justified the nationwide protests.
“Those who wrote it, and Mr Tinubu who read it out, have succeeded in justifying the reasons for the nationwide protest.
“It is appalling that despite what we have witnessed across the country in the last three days, the President did not deem it necessary to speak to the specific demands of the protesters.
“A government is only useful if it serves the interest of the governed. This government is anti-people,” he stated in an X post.
