The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Zacheous Michael has reportedly been abducted by gunmen.
The abduction was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, William Ayah, who revealed that Michael and some of his aides were kidnapped on Friday night along Kabba/Okene road.
Ayah disclosed that officers had already been deployed by the Commissioner of Police, Bethrand Onuoha for a search and rescue mission.
The police spokesman assured that the command would ensure that the chairman and his aides are rescued.
According to him, there was no information on whether the kidnappers had reached out to demand a ransom payment.
Those with knowledge of the development are linking it to the upcoming council election scheduled to take place on October 19 by the State Independent Electoral Commission.
Michael was chosen as the only candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for Kabba local government.
However, sharing an update on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Williams Ayah, who spoke with Channels TV disclosed that Michael had regained his freedom.
Ayah said the caretaker chairman claimed he escaped while they were being transported by the abductors to another location.
Michael further stated that his aides are still being held captive.
