A human rights activist and convener of Apostolic Roundtable, Bolaji O. Akinyemi, has raised the alarm over a purported plot to attack non-Yorubas residing in Lagos State.
Akinyemi alleged that the plot involves targeting the Igbos during the ongoing nationwide protest with the hashtag #EndBadGovernance.
The activist urged ‘strangers’ in Lagos to stage a sit-at-home protest during the demonstration, citing concerns that hired thugs might be preparing to unleash violence on innocent non-Yoruba Nigerians in the city.
According to him, the current precarious situation in the country is a result of an undue quest for one man to grab power by any means, exemplified by the “Emilokan” mantra.
The Yoruba clergy made this statement in Enugu on Wednesday night, saying, “In the reality of the largest nation on the continent, a lion has adopted the character of a tortoise and initiated the Emilokan dance, selling it as ‘awa lokan’ to his tribe.”
The statement reads in part: “Yet, ‘Oro’ voices are heard from their grottoes forbidding the youth from protesting and then threatening strangers in ‘a o merin joba land.’
“Cracks in the wall of the nation are ignored, leading to the crumbling structure that may bury us all alive.
“Restructuring our federation by suspending the 1963 CFRN and incorporating the 2014 Conference reviews was a stitch meant for yesterday to save today, but it was ignored! The tears in our garments have widened. Would a stitch in time, of ‘#EndBadGovernance’ cry save nine?”
He further asserted that President Bola Tinubu could have mitigated the crisis if he had acted more swiftly to marry the 1963 Constitution with the recommendations of the 2014 Constitution Review Conference convened by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
He added, “Will the BAT of mystery and mischief reach for the needle and thread to knit the 1963 Constitution with the 2014 Conference recommendations to give Nigeria new life? The government is not what the youths are demanding to end, but rather bad governance.
“If ‘#EndBadGovernance’ is successfully suppressed, ‘end bad government’ may be an inevitable consequence of the government’s failure to address the bad, for the good.
“Intelligence on this proposed protest is damning. From the streets, I sense the determination of the Ewe Ku Ewele tribe to work with the tribe up the northern river to torment the Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo tribe.
“Save lives by giving Nigeria, not our wicked leader, this last chance to survive. I appeal to all friends of the leader to please tell him to end bad governance!
“A sit-at-home protest is my recommendation to all parents and youths alike. With a ‘sit-at-home’ protest, we are bound to have the same result.”
