A Sokoto State-based youth association, “Northern Youth Alliance for Good Governance” has disassociated Sokoto youths from the proposed nationwide protest.
The coordinator of the group, Abdulrahman Ali, while addressing journalists at the press centre on Wednesday, said the idea of the organisers of the protest is to disrupt peace in the country, while acknowledging that government is doing its best to improve on the economy.
“We welcome you all to this very important briefing meant to declare our position and stand as Sokoto state youths on the so called planned national, protest in order to protect the only home we have and we’re proud of.
“Sokoto is our only dear state, a place we have as a home and a settlement we all dear so much to be very much peaceful, conducive and comfortable for all of us.
“It’s our hope to see our teeming Sokoto State youths as united as a broom so as to advise one another on the need to protect our home, especially at a most critical time like this when the government is trying to fix economy and other related issues.
“Indeed, the government policies need to be supported by all of us in order to have a peaceful coexistence and a fast growing, robust growing economy.”
The group further commend the state government under the leadership of Dr Ahmed Aliyu, has initiated many programmes, with many among them been implemented and still implementing and with such programmes positively beneficial to the good people of Sokoto.
“In this regard, we believe there’s a need for us as young people with brighter future ahead, the future leaders of Nigeria, not to let ourselves be used by some sadistic people with sinister motives in order to throw our dear state and country into any chaos in whatsoever form.
“Apart from the lingering insecurity and banditry that government is already battling with, rather, support its efforts to see to stem the tide of the myriad of recurring formidable security challenges.
“We hereby call on our teeming Sokoto State youths to shun and distance ourselves from the much speculated planned protest, which we all know will not bring about any good to anybody in this country.
“It will be a bad omen for our state, nation and the citizens as it will just blow an ill-wind,” he added.
