Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, (KANSIEC) has fixed November 30th for the conduct of local government elections in the state.
The Chairman of the Commission, Sani Lawal Malumfashi disclosed this on Wednesday while adding that the processes of the election would commence from 15th August 2024 to end on 30th November 2024..
Speaking at a press conference, he explained that the elections was pursuant to the Electoral Act, 2022 adding that the exercise was encouraged by the exigencies of the situations surrounding the recent Supreme Court Ruling on Local Government Autonomy.
He assured that KANSIEC was determined to organize and conduct free, fair, credible and decent elections while urging for coperation from stakeholders: including leaders of political parties, youths organizations, women organizations, the media and , security agencies.
He explained that the Commission reserved the right to disqualify any deviating candidate on account of election violence and any other electoral offences
He enjoined political parties to field candidates who are honest, selfless, prudent, community oriented, responsible and responsive, and those who are truly agents of change.
It could be recalled that the tenure of the past chairmen expired some two months ago following which the state government appointed administrators to oversee their affairs.
