On Monday, the National President of Ogbako Ndigbo Nile distributed free fertilisers to farmers to boost agriculture production and end poverty in the southeast region.
The President General of the body, Ambassador Azunna Akpelu, distributed some fertilisers to farmers in Imo State in partnership with Ebonyi Fertiliser and Chemical Company Limited, led by Eni Uduma Chima.
Akpelu said: “We have brought a fertiliser company from Ebonyi to Imo State to come and improve yields. This is because of the complaints from our people that they usually get poor harvests because of adulterated fertilisers.”.
He said they were moved by their cry to attract the Ebonyi State Fertiliser Company to the state to end their sufferings as well as to support our own.
He said, “At this point, we are calling on our Igbo brothers and sisters to support us in making sure that there is food in Imo State and food in the South East and the entire Igboland.
“We are a welfare organisation working for our people. Igbos should come out and support their own because Ebonyi Fertiliser is one of the best.”.
The president expressed optimism that their move would promote agriculture, support each other and tackle insecurity in the zone
He said: “You know that the reason people are committing crimes is because of hunger. When somebody is hungry, he does not think well. Part of what we should do is make sure people have enough food.”
Earlier in his speech, the chairman of Ebonyi Fertiliser and Chemical Company Limited, Uduma Chima
said that they have come to Imo in partnership with Ogbako Ndigbo Nile to make it available to the people and bring solutions to their agricultural challenges.
He said that the Company is interested in food security and will give the people fertilisers to boost agriculture in the state, as well as address the issue of adulteration.
He said, “The Ebonyi state governor and the entire government are fighting seriously to eradicate hunger and poverty in our state through various programmes we initiated, which include agriculture and food production.”
