From Agaju Madugba, Katsina
The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Interior, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Ahmed, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the North-West Development Commission Bill into law.
The President recently signed bills creating the North-West Development Commission (NWDC) and the South-East Development Commission (SEDC).
Ahmed, who represents Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, described the signing of the bill into law as a decisive step to pull the region back from the brink.
In a statement on Monday by his Special Assistant on Media, Sardauna Francis, the lawmaker noted that signing of the Bill into law has demonstrated Tinubu’s commitment to building the nation on the fulcrum of fairness, justice and equity.
He said the Commission would facilitate the reconstruction of roads, houses and business premises destroyed by multidimensional crises, and mitigate poverty in the seven North-West states of Katsina, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Sokoto and Kebbi.
He added that the establishment of the Commission would create more opportunities for development in the North-West and accelerate solutions to other myriad of challenges beleaguering the area.
He urged the governments to ensure that people who will be saddled with the responsibility of running the Commission are knowledgeable, creative and innovative for sustainable development to thrive.
Ahmed admonished stakeholders in the region to put all hands on deck to ensure the teeming people of the area have the dark clouds of underdevelopment removed from their environment.
He said that, “I extend my warm appreciation to the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for signing the Bill into law.
“By assenting to the Bill, President Tinubu has shown that he has foresight and the goodwill to develop Nigeria.
“This law will promote inclusive governance and bring development closer to our people.
“I therefore urge leaders and people of the North-West to see the signing of the North-West Development Commission Bill into law by our President as a call to action that will enable us to come up with stirring solutions to our challenges.”
